Women's Tennis Set For Pair Of Weekend Matches

Rachel Daniell plays the top spot in both singles and doubles for the Blazers.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB women’s tennis team will make the short trip over to Starkville, Miss., where it will take on SEC opponent Mississippi State, slated for 11 a.m. CT at the A.J Pitts Tennis Centre.

Following their trip to Starkville the Blazers will head back to Birmingham to take on the Northwestern State Lady Demons at George Ward Park beginning at 11 am CT.

Mississippi State is coming off the ITA Kickoff Weekend where they fell 4-1 to No.7 Texas A&M then bounced back to beat No. 68 San Jose State 4-2.

The Northwestern State Lady Demons will be competing in just their second match of the season, following their 4-3 upset win over No. 52 Southern Methodist University Jan. 26.

UAB is looking to rebound from its tough fought 5-2 loss against Middle Tennesse on Sunday.  The team is currently 1-2 with the win coming against Kennesaw State and is led by junior Rachel Daniell who is playing the top spot in both singles and doubles.

Up next for the Blazers will be three home contests. They will take on UTSA, Jacksonville State and North Alabama before heading across town to take on in-town rival, Samford, on Feb. 26.
