BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Head coach Lisa Jackson kicks off her first season as UAB's women's tennis coach this weekend when her team hosts three matches to open up the 2013 slate.

The Blazers' Friday contest against Kennesaw State has been moved to 9:30 a.m. CT. The match, which was originally scheduled for 10:30 a.m., will be played indoors at Samford's Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavillion due to cold weather.

UAB returns to George Ward Park to host Georgia Southern at 9:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, before taking on Mercer at Noon CT Sunday on the Samford campus.

"We are excited to get started," UAB head coach Lisa Jackson said. "This team has been working hard, and I am thrilled to begin the season with such great competition this weekend."

The Green and Gold return six letterwinners from a season ago, including seniors Rachel Cohen, Isabel Fernandez and Menanteau Moolman. UAB also added two freshmen, Amy Lowther and Elaine Simon, to this year's lineup.

Jackson will make her head-coaching debut after serving as an assistant coach at LSU, where she helped the program to four NCAA Tournament appearances in seven seasons.

"I am grateful to UAB for giving me this opportunity," said Jackson. "I hope to represent this University in a positive matter, and I look forward to our players giving great effort."

Following play this weekend, UAB returns home to face Jacksonville State next Friday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. CT. That contest will also be played at George Ward Park.
