BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Amy Lowther of the UAB women’s tennis team is the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes Blazer student-athletes who have excelled on their respective fields of competition and in the classroom.
In the UAB women’s tennis team first contest of the 2014 season, the Blazers suffered a 4-1 setback to nationally ranked Florida State. Lowther, in the second singles position, picked up the squad’s only victory. Last year as a freshman, Lowther played a vital role for the Green and Gold, recording 13 singles wins, the third-best mark on the team.
Off the court, the Seminole, Fla. native owns a 3.7 cumulative GPA. The biology major was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom in 203.
Lowther and the UAB women’s tennis team will return to the courts on Sunday, Jan. 26 as they face Kennesaw State at Samford.
