BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB freshman women’s tennis player Giovanna Baccarini highlighted an impressive day for the Blazers’ women’s tennis team on Saturday at the Samford Fall Invitational.

Baccarini is currently 2-0 in singles play at the event after she took a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Irina Constantinide from Middle Tennessee.

Sophomore Blazer Elaine Simon added a singles win on the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against MT’s Alexandra Torres, while Rachel Daniell added a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Tiffany William at the No. 1 singles spot.

In doubles, UAB’s tandem of  Daniell and Caroline Faught ran past their Samford counterparts, 8-3, and Baccarini and Amy Lowther took an 8-4 triumph in doubles.

“We performed well in doubles,” head coach Lisa Jackson said. “We played a great Middle Tennessee team, and it was good to see what we need to work on.”
