March 25, 2014

HOUSTON ---- No. 24 Houston proved to be too much for the UAB women’s tennis team on Tuesday as the Blazers fell, 7-0, at the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts.

With the loss, UAB falls to 7-10 overall on the year, while the 24th-ranked Cougars improve to 14-3 and 10-1 at home.

The Blazers got off to a strong start in doubles where UAB’s No. 3 tandem of Catherine Ragon and Amy Lowther ousted the Houston pair of Charlotte Phillips and Rocio Martin, 8-3.

Houston bounced back for two-straight doubles wins, however, to take a 1-0 advantage.

The Cougars then won at each of the six singles courts, but not without a fight at court No. 4, where Elaine Simon took her opponent Celia Fraser to tie-breaker third set in a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 loss.

Next up, the Blazers face a quick turnaround with a trip to Beaumont, Texas to face Lamar at 9 a.m. CT on Wednesday.
