Jessica Orton is in her first year as a student assistant coach with the UAB women's tennis program after a two-year playing career with the Blazers.
Though a back injury effectively ended her collegiate playing career, Orton is continuing to work with the tennis program as she completes her degree requirements at UAB.
Orton saw limited playing time because of her injury, competing in eight doubles matches for UAB as a sophomore in the spring of 2009 after sitting out both the spring and fall seasons in 2008. She was 2-2 in singles action and 1-1 in doubles as a freshman during the 2007 fall campaign.
A native of Mildura, Australia, Orton was the Sunraysia Women's A Grade tennis champion in singles and doubles from 2002 to 2007. She won the singles and doubles competition in the Sunraysia District High School Championships in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Orton was runner-up in the Balfours National Age Championships in the singles competition and won the doubles competition in 2005 in 16-under. She was coached by Andrew Kratzman and attended Red Cliffs Secondary College in Mildura, Victoria, Australia.
