BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — UAB women's tennis player Rachel Daniell has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week for her outstanding accomplishments on the court and in the classroom.
Daniell, a sophomore majoring in biology (pre-medicine), boasts a 3.92 GPA in her second season at UAB. The Douglasville, Ga., native was most recently named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic Team -- one of just five players from the league on that prestigious list.
On the court, Daniell finished second on the team in singles wins with a 14-6 record, playing mostly at the No. 2 spot. In doubles, Daniell recorded eight wins, which was the third-best total on the squad.
The Blazers finished the 2012-13 season at the Conference USA Tournament last week, falling to No. 9 seed Old Dominion. Under first year head coach Lisa Jackson, UAB finished with a 12-8 overall record -- the most wins in a single season since 2007.
