UAB will play ULM before competing in the Tulane Pelican Classic this week.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB sand volleyball team will play three-straight days as it takes on ULM Thursday, April 3 before competing in the Tulane Pelican Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The Blazers (2-5) will play ULM (2-9) for the third time in school history. The two teams met twice last season, splitting the decisions. The Warhawks won the first meeting, 3-2, but UAB took the second match, 3-2, at home.
After the dual match on Thursday, the Blazers will travel just down the road to New Orleans, La. for the Tulane Pelican Classic. Friday will be the dual-match day. The Blazers will play Tulane (3-3) at 11 a.m. and then Webber International (4-0) at 4:30 p.m.
UAB and Tulane are meeting for the fifth time in school history, with both teams tied at two wins apiece in the series. It will be the first meeting between the Blazers and Webber International.
Saturday will feature the bracketed pairs tournament. Each of the four teams, which include Tulane, ULM and Webber International, will have the No. 1 and No. 2 pairs play in a double-elimination tournament. The matches will be the usual best-of-three format for an Upper Bracket Title.
The remaining pairs, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, will battle in the Lower Bracket. The format will be a one-set match played to 28, must win by two points. It will be a single-elimination tournament.
The Blazers have had a week off since last playing in the Gamecock Invitational. UAB won two of its four games in the tournament. Two pairs finished 4-0 on the weekend, with No. 1 duo Kiriana Hirini and Bethanie Thomas improving to 6-1 on the season. Rachel Fairbanks and Sara Rishell also teamed up for four wins and are 4-2 on the season.
