NEW ORLEANS - The UAB sand volleyball team lost its third-straight 3-2 dual on the season when it fell to Tulane, before battling back for a 4-1 win over Stetson at the Tulane Tournament on Saturday.

With the split, UAB improves to 2-3 overall on the year with each of those losses coming in 3-2 fashion. Meanwhile, Tulane moves to 3-1 overall, while Stetson falls to 3-3 on the season.

UAB started the day with yet another tough 3-2 loss to Tulane. The Blazers fell behind 2-0 in the contest when Becca Howard and Kate Morrell fell, 22-20, 21-17, at the No. 5 position, before Kirsten Gallagher and Ally Slaughter dropped a 21-18, 21-13 match at the fourth spot.

The Blazers battled back, however, when the No. 3 pair of Sam Serley and Alison Woods rolled to a 21-17, 21-14 triumph over Tulane's Milica Jovic and Courtney Liddle. UAB's No. 2 duo of Rachel Fairbanks and Sara Rishell then followed with a 21-16, 21-17 victory against Grace Weaver and Anna Wruck.

Those two Blazer wins were not enough down the stretch, as UAB's No. 1 tandem of Kiriana Hirini and Bethanie Thomas fell, 27-25, 21-17, to the Green Wave's Sophie Aspey and Cori Martone.

Following the 3-2 loss to Tulane, the Blazers fought past Stetson, winning four three-set matches to clinch the 4-1 win.

Howard teamed with Sam Skinner for a 21-11, 13-21, 15-9 win at the fifth spot, while Slaughter and Gallagher battled to a 21-14, 17-21, 15-11 victory at the No. 4 court.

The Blazers then continued the strong play at the next three courts when Woods and Slaughter teamed up to take down Katie DiGirolama and Jordann Dierieckx, 21-12, 16-21, 15-13 at the No. 3 position.

Stetson's only win on the day came when Kaley Melville and Julie Bassett took down UAB's Fairbanks and Rishell, 21-13, 21-16, at the No. 2 spot.

The Blazers now travel to Macon, Ga., to take on Mercer on Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT.
