BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB softball team released its 2013 schedule Wednesday, which features 53 games, including 20 at the UAB Softball Field. This season, the Blazers will face nine opponents that received NCAA tournament berths a year ago, including defending champion Alabama.

The largest senior class in program history will lead the Blazers this year with Whitney Fletcher, Hailey Glynn, Chandler Orr, Kate Armstrong, Anna Kimbrell, Lauren Webster, and Maegan Hornsby.

UAB also welcomes three newcomers to the team with Caitlin Attfield, Ashley Johnson and Kelly Britt.

The Blazers will kick off 2013 at the Paradise Softball Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, Feb. 7-9. UAB will take on Washington, Hawaii, Ole Miss, and St. Mary's throughout the tournament, which the team also participated in 2004 and 2009.

"I'm very excited to take the team back to Hawaii," head coach Marla Townsend said. "It's an excellent opportunity for us to play some of the top teams in the country. It's going to be very challenging."

Next, UAB will travel to Kennesaw, Ga., for the Kennesaw State Classic Feb. 16-17, and will face Eastern Kentucky, SIU-Edwardsville, IUPUI, and UT Martin.

The Blazers will then return to Birmingham for their 2013 home opener, facing Alabama at the UAB Softball Field on Feb. 19.

The Blazers will take to the road again, traveling to Montgomery, Ala. for a doubleheader against Alabama State on Feb. 22, followed by a game at Kennesaw State on Feb. 26.

March 1-3 marks UAB's third and final tournament, the Magic City Classic, hosted by Samford in Birmingham. Over that weekend, the Blazers will take on Nicholls State, South Alabama, Samford, and Murray State.

Conference USA action opens on March 9-10 in Orlando, Fla., against UCF, who finished fourth in the league a year ago. The Blazers will also travel to Memphis (March 23-24), defending conference champion Tulsa (April 13-14), and Houston (May 4-5).

UAB will host conference foes East Carolina (March 16-17), Southern Miss (March 29-30), UTEP (April 20-21), and Marshall (April 29-30).

Throughout the C-USA slate, the Blazers will play a number of non-conference midweek matchups, hosting Mississippi State (March 26), Lipscomb (April 2), Alabama State (April 23), Chattanooga (DH, April 30) and Jacksonville State (May 1). UAB will also travel to South Alabama (March 20), Mississippi State (April 3) and Troy (April 16).

The 2013 Conference USA Championship is scheduled for May 9-11 in Tulsa, Okla.
