BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB softball team will officially open its 2008 fall season with the annual Alumni game, Saturday Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. at George Ward Park. This season's roster will be facing off against former Blazer greats including Amanda Ellis, Kerri Foster, Megan Stephenson Douglas, Holly Krzan and Jennifer Nelson.

"This game is always entertaining," said head coach Marla Townsend. "This could be the strongest group of alumni we have ever faced. I'm excited to see how our athletes respond to a live game situation."

After the Alumni game, fans are welcome to join the Blazers softball team as they tailgate in preparation for the UAB-Alabama State football game. Pre-game festivities are scheduled to start around 1:30 p.m. at Legion Field.

"I always look forward to having our alumni come together," Townsend said. "It should turn out to be a fun-filled weekend."

On Friday night, the team will be holding the annual Blazer Bash/Meet the Team Banquet. It will be held at the Birmingham Athletic Club located in John A. Hand Building at 6:30 p.m.
