BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Erica Sisson, who played and coached at UAB from 2009-13, is returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach, UAB softball head coach Marla Townsend announced on Thursday.

"I am honored to welcome Erica back to UAB and I look forward to working with her for years to come," Townsend said. "Erica is one of the premier young coaches in the country. Her passion and knowledge for the game are unmatched."

Sisson rejoins the Blazers following a one-year stint at Ball State, where she served as an assistant coach under Tyra Perry. While with the Cardinals, she helped the program to a 2014 Mid-American Conference regular season championship, helping guide Ball State to a 33-19 record.

While at UAB as a volunteer assistant in 2013, Sisson was part of the NFCA Mideast Coaching Staff of the Year and helped guide UAB to its first-ever berth in the NCAA Super Regionals. She assisted with hitting and infield development and also served as the catching coach for the Blazers. UAB also claimed its first Conference USA regular season championship in 2013.

As a four-year student-athlete at UAB, Sisson played a key role in advancing the team to three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths. Over her career, she recorded 131 starts in 147 appearances with primary roles at catcher and first base. She was also a four-time Conference USA Honor Roll honoree, a Conference USA Academic Medal Recipient and a 2008-09 NFCA Academic All-American.
