ATHENS, Ga. - The UAB softball team will make its fifth-straight NCAA Championship appearance on Friday at the NCAA Athens Regional with a 1:30 p.m. CT contest against NC State.
The Blazers (31-25), the No. 3 seed, square off with the Wolfpack, the No. 2 seed in the first game of the regional. The winner of that contest will then play at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday against the winner of the No. 4 seed Chattanooga and No. 1 seed (No. 7 in top-25) Georgia. The loser of game one will face the loser of game two at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday.
All games will be played at Jack Turner Softball Stadium in Athens. All-session ticket prices are $25 for reserved seating. Adult general admission is $20 for all-session, while student general admission is $10 for the weekend. Reserved tickets on a daily basis are $10, while adult general admission is $7. Student general admission is $5 for a single day of softball action. Fans can order tickets in-person at the Athletic Association ticket office at Butts-Mehre, by calling 1-877-542-1231, online by clicking here, or at will call and day of game sales at Jack Turner Stadium.

The UAB softball team received one of the NCAA's 32 at-large bids, for its fifth-straight berth into the NCAA Championship. The Blazers played the nation's second-toughest non-conference schedule and 10th overall and continue their season this weekend at the NCAA Athens Regional, hosted by the University of Georgia, the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA.
UAB will open the regional against the No. 2 seed NC State on Friday. The two teams have met once all-time, a contest on March 7, 2012, where UAB defeated the Wolfpack, 3-1, in Lexington, Ky. The Blazers are 2-8 all-time against Georgia (including a split earlier this year) and 13-9 against Chattanooga.
UAB played 17 games this season against nine teams that qualified for the 2014 NCAA Championship (Alabama, Baylor, Georgia, Lipscomb, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Alabama and Tulsa).
This weekend's regional appearance at Georgia marks the second in Athens for the UAB program. The Blazers played in the 2011 Athens Regional where they defeated Florida State to open, before losing to Georgia and the Seminoles in a second contest.

UAB One of 23 Teams With Five-Straight NCAA Tournament Appearances
UAB is just one of 23 programs in NCAA Division I to qualify for the NCAA Tournament in five-straight seasons. UAB's run began in 2010 and the Blazers have since advanced to the postseason every year since their first-ever appearance in 2010. The other 22 teams are: Alabama, Arizona State, Florida, UCLA, Arizona, Oregon, San Diego State, Michigan, Florida State, BYU, Washington, Georgia, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Texas, Louisiana-Lafayette, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Missouri.
Four Blazers Named To NFCA Mideast All-Region Teams
Seniors Kristen and Megan McGrath, as well as Leigh Streetman and sophomore Caitlin Attfield, were named to the NFCA Mideast All-Region Teams on Thursday, the NFCA Released. Kristen McGrath was named to the first team after earning second team honors last season. Attfield picked up second team honors for the second-straight year, while Streetman and Megan McGrath were named to the third team.
Scouting The Competition
NC State, UAB's opening opponent of the 2014 NCAA Athens Regional, enters the weekend at 34-16 overall. Renada Davis leads the Wolfpack offensively with a .374 average, totaling 17 home runs and 33 RBI. Lana Van Dyken follows not far behind with a .358 average with 14 RBI. Kirsty Grant, third on the team in batting average, leads the club in stolen bases with 18 total in 19 attempts. Emily Weiman leads the NC State pitching staff and has a 28-13 record entering the regional. She's tossed 248.2 innings and allowed 89 earned runs, walked 83 and struck out 235. She's tossed 11 shutouts, 30 complete games and totals a 2.51 ERA. Courtney Mirabella has thrown 72.2 innings for the Wolfpack and allowed 40 earned runs on 71 hits with a 3.85 ERA.
The Chattanooga Mocs enter the regional at 34-19 overall and are led by Nicole Osterman and Sarah Beth Roberts at the plate. Osterman is hitting .358, while Roberts has a team-best 32 RBI and six home runs. Taylor Deason owns the team's lowest ERA, a 1.23, in 137 innings of work with 123 hits allowed and a 13-7 record. Katie Henderson has tossed a team-high 178.2 innings and is 19-10 in the circle with a 1.61 ERA.
Fresh off winning the SEC tournament, No. 7 Georgia is 45-12 this season. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Paige Wilson, who's hitting .378 with 10 long balls and 45 RBI. Alex Hugo is the nation's leader in home runs with 23 and 60 RBI to lead UGA at the plate. Chelsea Wilkinson has a 29-7 record in the circle and a 2.04 ERA through 219.1 IP. Geri Ann Glasco is 16-5 with a 2.55 ERA in 140 IP.
