Head coach Marla Townsend takes her UAB Blazers into the Conference USA Championship as the No. 2 seed, which is set to begin on Thursday in Boca Raton, Fla.

IRVING, Texas – After concluding the 2014 regular season on Sunday to finish as Conference USA runners-up, the UAB softball team (31-24, 15-8 C-USA) earned the No. 2 seed for the C-USA Championship and will face No. 7 Marshall on Thursday, May 8 at the FAU Softball Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Blazers and Thundering Herd will play the first game of the championship at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday. The winner of that contest will then advance to face the winner of (3) FIU vs. (6) East Carolina in the semifinals on Friday at 2 p.m.
UAB finished at 15-8 in conference action in the regular season after winning 2-of-3 this weekend at UTSA. Tulsa earned the No. 1 seed after finishing 19-4 in the conference sked.
The Blazers are 8-16 all-time in the tournament and 0-2 against Marshall. The Thundering Herd topped UAB in the second round in both the 2012 and 2013 championship.
First round games will continue at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Friday’s semifinal games will take place at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., while Saturday’s championship game is set for 12 p.m. and will air on the CBS Sports Network.
All games will be played at the FAU Softball Stadium on the campus of Florida Atlantic. Each game will air on the C-USA Digital Network and all UAB games will also have a free internet audio broadcast at UABsports.com.
