BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The No. 1 seeded UAB Softball team is set for the Conference USA Softball Championship, hosted by Tulsa at the Collins Family Softball Complex, May 9-11.

In the opener, the Blazers (36-15, 19-4 C-USA) will face No. 8 seeded Southern Miss on Thursday, May 9, at 4:30 p.m. CT.

"It's a new season right now," head coach Marla Townsend said. "Everything starts over, and we are looking to carry over the momentum from the regular season and winning the conference championship into the first game of the tournament."

Earlier in the season, the Blazers shut out the Golden Eagles in each of three games at the UAB Softball Field on March 29-30. In the opener, pitcher Leigh Streetman threw her second no-hitter of the year and head coach Marla Townsend won her 400th career game as the Blazers came out on top, 1-0.

UAB won the second game, 6-0, as catcher Anna Kimbrell hit a three RBI home run in the bottom of the fourth, followed by an RBI single by first baseman Megan McGrath. Designated player Kristen McGrath hit a two-RBI single in the fifth to finish off the Blazer scoring, while junior Lannah Campbell only allowed four hits and struck out 10 batters in the shutout.

In the finale, the Blazers scored two runs in the bottom of the third as right fielder Chandler Orr reached on an error that scored second baseman Heather Pearson and M. McGrath singled to left to score senior Whitney Fletcher. In the circle, Lauren Webster got the win, throwing four innings and striking out seven, while Streetman got the save, throwing the final three inning and striking out five.
