Blazers Poised for Battle with No. 9/10 Washington

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball is set to host No. 9/10 Washington Thursday, April 20 at Mary Bowers Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

This will be only the third time in program history that UAB and Washington have played each other. The all-time series is tied 1-1 with the Huskies winning the last meeting, 8-4, in 2013.

UAB heads into the matchup with No. 9/10 Washington carrying a 16-27 overall record and is 7-8 in conference play.

Analyse Petree leads the Blazers offensively with a .291 batting average and a .436 slugging percentage. The sophomore is second on the squad with 16 RBI and 48 total bases through 43 games.

Destini England boasts a .261 batting average and has a team-high 20 runs scored and 36 hits, six of those being triples, which is the most in Conference USA. The freshman outfielder is second on the squad with eight stolen bases and 48 total bases.

Joanna Fallen has brought power to the plate for the Blazers this season. The senior is tied for first with five home runs, is slugging .409 and is second on the team with 15 RBI. She has crossed the plate 15 times and tallied 35 hits.

Claire Blount continues to lead the UAB pitching staff. The freshman lefty owns a 2.87 ERA and has a 7-9 record. She has pitched nine complete games, recorded two shutouts and tallied 106 strikeouts in 129.1 innings of work.

Washington enters the game with a 31-10 overall record and the Huskies are coming off a 2-1 series win over No. 6 Oregon.

Casey Stangel leads Washington offensively with a .387 batting average. She has crossed the plate 25 times and has recorded a team-high 46 hits through 41 games played.

In the circle, Taran Alvelo boasts a 2.28 ERA and holds an impressive 19-6 record. The sophomore has tossed 16 complete games, recorded four shutouts and tallied 136 strikeouts in 81.0 innings of work.

The Blazers will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee in a three-game conference series. A doubleheader will be played Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and the series finale will be played Sunday at 12 p.m.
