BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team will play its final midweek games of the season on Tuesday when the Blazers play host to Kennesaw State in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the UAB Softball Field.
Just 11 games remain on the 2014 regular-season schedule, as the Blazers will host the Owls in 2-for-1 day at the doubleheader.

The Blazers lead the all-time series, 11-3. The Owls took the last meeting, 6-1 in Kennesaw a season ago, but UAB holds the home advantage, 5-1 over KSU at home.
UAB will host Kennesaw State in a doubleheader on Tuesday in what will be the Blazers’ final midweek contests of the season. UAB is fresh off a series win at Southern Miss, shutting out the Golden Eagles by a combined 5-0 over the final two games.
UAB is 8-5 in midweek games this season and 5-3 at home in midweek contests. With 16 wins on the year, Leigh Streetman is now tied for third on UAB’s single-season list. A win on Tuesday would move her to a tie for second with 17. Megan McGrath has 13 home runs this season and would move into a tie for first with her twin sister with one more this year.
With just two weekends of conference play left, UAB sits third in the Conference USA standings with an 11-6 mark in league play. Tulsa leads the way in league action with a 12-2 conference mark, while North Texas holds the second spot at 12-5. UAB will host its home finale this weekend against Charlotte on Friday and
Saturday and travel to UTSA May 3-4 for the regular-season finale.
Scouting the Competition
Kennesaw State enters the midweek doubleheader sitting at .500 on the season at 22-22 overall. The Owls are 5-8 on the road and are fresh off a weekend series win over Stetson this past weekend.
The Owls are 2-6 against common UAB opponents this season, picking up quality wins over Mississippi State and Lipscomb. KSU dropped contests to Alabama, Troy, Tulsa and Lipscomb earlier this season.
KSU is led offensively by Angie Dascoli who is hitting .374 with 46 hits, two home runs and 23 RBI on the year. Taylor Denton follows close behind, hitting .359 with a team-best 47 hits and a team-best 11 stolen bases in 14 attempts. Courtney Sutter and Megan Veringa are tied for the team-lead in home runs with five each. As a team the Owls are hitting .285 with 14 home runs and 145 RBI.
The Owls’ pitching staff enters the midweek doubleheader with a team 3.36 ERA. Amanda Henderson leads the way for the Owls at 17-8 on the season with a 2.60 ERA in 142.2 IP. She’s thrown 12 complete games and three shutouts, allowing 53 earned runs with 168 strikeouts. Paige Mathews has tossed 126.0 innings of work for KSU and is 4-11 on the year with a 3.56 ERA and 64 earned runs allowed.
