BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--UAB softball pitcher Leigh Streetman was named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
This is her second career honor and the third time a UAB pitcher has been recognized this season.
Streetman threw her second no-hitter of the year on March 29, as UAB topped Southern Miss, 1-0, in the conference series opener. In the game, Streetman matched her career high in strikeouts with 13 and retired the Golden Eagles in order in the second, third and seventh innings.
In the series finale, after Southern Miss recorded a pair of no-out hits in the top of the fifth inning, the junior from Hueytown, Ala., entered the circle and struck out her first batter before a pop-out led to the second out. Streetman threw her second strikeout to get the Blazers out of the inning without allowing a run. In the sixth and seventh innings, Streetman retired the Golden Eagles in order to give UAB a 2-0 win.
On the weekend, Streetman led the Blazer pitching staff with 18 strikeouts in 10.0 hitless innings, and is now the only UAB pitcher to have two no-hitters in her career. Earning her second save of the season in Saturday's game, she has 12 in her career, the most of any Blazer in UAB history.
Up next, Streetman and the Blazers will host Lipscomb for a doubleheader on Tuesday at the UAB Softball Field, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. CT. On Wednesday, UAB travels to Ridgeland, Miss., for a rematch against Mississippi State, set to start at 6:30 p.m. CT. Follow @UABSoftball on Twitter for in-game updates.
