BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB senior pitcher Leigh Streetman was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week following her performance in the circle this past week, the league office announced on Monday.
The weekly honor marks the second time this season Streetman has picked up the pitcher of the week award, as she earned co-pitcher of the week honors on March 3 following her performance at the Bulldog Invitational.
Streetman tossed 32.1 innings of work, going 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA. She tossed a complete game in each contest she started and also threw one shutout. In UAB’s five games this week, Streetman allowed just seven earned runs, walked six and struck out 25 for a .209 opponent batting average.
In UAB’s 3-0 win against Western Kentucky on Tuesday, the senior from Hueytown tossed a one-hit, complete game shutout and struck out three Lady Toppers in just 86 pitches to begin the Blazers’ homestand. She came back the next day to throw 11.1 combined innings of work as UAB swept Ball State in a doubleheader, 7-6 and 6-1. In her start against the Cardinals, she allowed seven hits but just one run and struck out eight.
She got the win in the circle for UAB in game one of the Conference USA home opener against Florida Atlantic on Saturday, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. She rebounded on Sunday and continued her week’s success to throw another complete game and allow just two runs on six hits.
