UAB Notes
Series Information/Conference Home Openers
In its 15th year of play in Conference USA, UAB is 8-6 all-time in conference home openers, and 25-17 in conference home opening weekends. The Owls and Blazers have never met, as FAU is one of the newest members to join the league.

Home Success
The Blazers have won three in a row and four of their last six dating back to the C-USA opener at East Carolina last weekend. UAB is a perfect 3-0 on the current homestand, winning the first three games against Western Kentucky and Ball State by a combined score of 16-7.

Record Watch
With 102 strikeouts on the season so far, senior Leigh Streetman has moved into sole possession of second place on the UAB all-time career strikeouts list with 561 (Jennifer Nelson has the all-time lead in strikeouts with 804). Streetman is averaging 8.6 strikeouts per seven innings, good enough for 45th in the NCAA.

Senior Kristen McGrath has a current 10-game hit streak and has moved into sole possession of third place on the UAB all-time career RBI list with 122. She needs just two to move into a tie for second, and four to tie for the all-time lead of 126 set by Mandy Lowman.

Road Warriors
Following a nine-game road swing dating back to Feb. 28, UAB continues its six-game homestand and 10 of 11 at home when FAU comes to town on Saturday. The Blazers finished 5-4 over the previous road trip, picking up notable wins over No. 18 Georgia and Mississippi State, who was 19-1 entering the contest. UAB is 176-131 all-time at the UAB softball field to date entering the weekend.

Game Promotions
Prior to Saturday’s doubleheader, Belles & Whistles will host a pregame tailgate. Those who sent in RSVP’s will take part in a pregame meal and hear head coach Marla Townsend who is scheduled to make an appearance prior to the game. Sunday’s promotion will be Camper Day.

Blazers Sweep Ball State, 7-6 and 6-1
The UAB softball team swept the Ball State Cardinals, 7-6 and 6-1, at the UAB Softball Field on Wednesday to improve to 11-12 overall, and 3-0 to begin the Blazers’ six-game homestand.

Sophomore Caitlin Attfield had a career day at the plate, finishing 6-for-8 with three RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. Senior Kristen McGrath went 4-for-7 with three RBI including a three-run home run, her sixth of the season, and also added a double. Junior Heather Pearson and freshman Mary Warren both had two RBI on the day.

Senior Leigh Streetman tossed 11.1 innings of work in the circle for UAB and struck out 13 Cardinals, allowing just three earned runs and nine hits to pick up both wins for the Blazers.
