BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team (6-10) will continue its nine-game road swing with a 5 p.m. game at Mississippi State (19-1) on Tuesday, March 4.
The Blazers and Bulldogs’ contest was originally scheduled for 6 p.m., but was moved up an hour due to expected inclement weather conditions. Mississippi State leads the all-time series, 14-3, as UAB and the Bulldogs have split the last four meetings.

UAB Facing Nation’s Top Teams
Through 16 games, UAB has already faced seven teams that were ranked in the top-25 at the time of the contest. The Blazers faced South Alabama when they were No. 19/20, and No. 11 Alabama in their second home game. UAB fell to Missouri, 8-1, when they were No. 18, and lost to No. 14 Baylor on a walk off home run, 4-2. UAB most recently faced Georgia, who was No. 18, this past weekend.
Additionally, three other UAB opponents are consistently receiving votes in both polls, including McNeese State, Lipscomb, and today’s opponent, Mississippi State..
Streetman Named C-USA Co-Pitcher of the Week
Senior Leigh Streetman was named one of the Conference USA Co-Pitchers of the Week on Monday, March 3 following her performance in Athens.
She posted a 2-1 record and didn’t allow an earned run to total a 0.00 ERA through three appearances and two starts. Through 11.2 innings pitched in the tournament, she struck out 13, walked four and allowed just nine hits.
McGrath Breaks UAB Career Home Run Record
With her home run at the Bulldog Invitational, Kristen McGrath became UAB’s new all-time leader in career home runs with 33. She also is in the top-10 in RBI with 115 for her career, which ranks No. 4 on the UAB list.
7 Innings Aren’t Enough
UAB played in its seventh extra-inning game of the young season on March in a 5-4, 8-inning loss to Western Carolina. The Blazers are 1-6 overall in extra innings, and have eclipsed last year’s extra-inning game total of four through just 16 games this season.
The Blazers are being outscored 28-24 in extra-inning games, and 1-5 when tied after six innings of play. UAB has outscored opponents 6-4 in the ninth inning, but has been outscored a combined 12-7 in the seventh and eighth innings.
