IRVING, Texas – UAB senior pitcher Leigh Streetman was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
The Hueytown, Ala., native posted a 2-1 record over the weekend at the 6th Annual Bulldog Invitational hosted by No. 18 Georgia. She didn’t allow an earned run to total a 0.00 ERA through three appearances and two starts.
Streetman tossed a complete-game shutout on Saturday, March 1, as UAB dominated No. 18 Georgia, 8-0. Against the Bulldogs, she allowed just five hits, one walk and struck out six to improve her season record to 5-5.
She opened the tournament Friday morning with a combined, five-inning shutout over Western Carolina, 9-0. Her only loss came on Saturday as UAB fell to the Catamounts, 5-4, in eight innings on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt at third to allow the game-winning, unearned run to cross home plate.
Through 11.2 innings pitched in the tournament, she struck out 13, walked four and allowed just nine hits. She improved her season ERA to 1.31 and has tossed three complete games and three combined shutouts in 53.1 innings pitched.
The honor marks the third of Streetman’s four-year career as she picked up the weekly recognition as a freshman and again as a junior last season after tossing a no-hitter.
Streetman and the Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday, March 4, at Mississippi State at 6 p.m.
