BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Senior pitcher Lauren Webster was named Magic City Classic Co-Most Valuable Pitcher, as voted by the head coaches following the final game of the Magic City Classic, co-hosted by UAB and Samford at the UAB Softball Field.
For their performances over the weekend, senior catcher Anna Kimbrell, freshman shortstop Caitlin Attfield and junior first baseman Megan McGrath were named to the Magic City Classic All-Tournament Team
In two appearances in the circle, Webster (4-1) threw a pair of complete games and recorded her third shutout in the 2-0 win over Murray State. In two appearances this weekend, the senior struck out 26 batters in 14 innings and allowed only five hits.
Kimbrell hit her fifth and sixth home runs in the win over Nicholls State and the loss to South Alabama. The senior has recorded 11 RBI on the season, and boasts a 1.071 slugging percentage with a .357 batting average.
Over the weekend, Attfield was a perfect three-for-three in stolen base attempts, and is perfect on the season with a team-best eight. The freshman batted in a run in the 4-1 win over Nicholls and owns a .366 batting average this season.
McGrath batted in UAB's second run in the win over Murray State on a bunt single in front of the Racer pitcher. The Tampa, Fla. native has a batting average of .214 and has recorded 47 putouts on the season.
Up next, the Blazers travel to Kennesaw, Ga., to face Kennesaw State in a doubleheader on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
