BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team (1-3) will make the trek to Waco, Texas to compete in this weekend’s three-day, six-team Getterman Classic hosted by Baylor. The Blazers will open the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. CT game against No. 14 Missouri on Friday, Feb. 14.

UAB was originally scheduled to face East Carolina in the six-team tournament, but due to weather and travel conditions, the Pirates were unable fly to Waco. As a result, Missouri took the plate of ECU and will play in the Pirates’ scheduled time slots of games this weekend.

Following their opening game against the Tigers, the Blazers will square off against The No. 16 Baylor Bears at 3 p.m. CT on Friday. UAB will play two games on Saturday, Feb. 15, with the tournament’s first game of the day against Drake at 10 a.m. CT, and a final game on Saturday against Iowa at 12:30 p.m. CT. The Blazers will cap the tournament with a 9 a.m. CT contest against Lipscomb Sunday, Feb. 16.

This weekend’s games will be played at two facilities including the Getterman Softball Stadium and Southwest Region Little League Complex. Live stats will be available for games played at the Getterman Softball Stadium, but will not be available for games played at the Southwest Region Little League Complex.

UAB completed play at the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational last weekend and finished with a 1-3 record, earning a 4-1 victory over Austin Peay.

Three Times to Texas
The trip to Waco for UAB marks the first of three trips to the state of Texas during the 2014 season. The Blazers will travel to Denton, Texas at the end of March for a three-game set against new Conference USA foe North Texas, and will close the Texas road swing in early May with a three-game set against UTSA to close the 2014 regular season.

Streetman’s Early Success
UAB senior pitcher Leigh Streetman started her season off on the right foot at this past weekend’s South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational. The Hueytown, Ala., native totaled a 1-1 record in Mobile, earning a 0.89 ERA through three appearances. Streetman tossed 15.2 innings of work in the circle and allowed nine hits, two earned runs, walked four and struck out 29 batters.

Attfield Named to South Alabama Mardi Gras All-Tournament Team
Caitlin Attfield hit .462 with six hits in 13 at-bats at the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational. The sophomore and reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year picked up UAB’s only hit of the opening game of the tournament against South Alabama, and followed with a 3-for-4 performance in the Blazers’ second game in Mobile. She also stole two bases in four attempts as the Blazers finished the weekend 1-3 with a 4-1 win over Austin Peay.

UAB One of C-USA TV Games Selected
UAB’s rubber game against East Carolina on March 9 at 11 a.m. has been selected as one of four regular season conference games to be featured nationally on the family of Fox Sports’ Networks. The Blazers and Pirates game on 3/9 marks the first of four to be played on Fox Sports, as the C-USA Championship Game is slated to be aired on the CBS Sports Network on May 10 at 11 a.m. CT.
