BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—UAB softball player Kate Armstrong has been named the student athlete of the week for her outstanding accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.
The exercise science major maintains a 3.33 GPA and is a three-time selection to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
In UAB’s 4-3 win over No. 16 Washington at the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic, Armstrong hit her first home run of the season to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead. In five games, the Vestavia Hills, Ala., native has recorded 14 at bats and owns an on-base percentage of .438--the second highest on the squad.
Armstrong was also named to the Paradise Classic All-Tournament Team following competition in Honolulu.
The Blazers (3-2, 0-0 C-USA) return to action at the Kennesaw State Classic, Feb. 16-17. UAB will take on Eastern Kentucky and SIUE on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET and 3:30 p.m. ET, respectively. On Sunday, UAB will face IUPUI at 10:30 a.m. ET, followed by UT Martin at 3:30 p.m. ET.
