GAINESVILLE, Fla.--The UAB softball team saw its 2013 season come to an end, falling to No. 2 seed Florida, 1-0, on Sunday in the second game of the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional at Pressly Stadium.
The Blazers end their season with a program-best record of 40-19, while the Gators improved to 57-7 and will face Tennessee in the opening game of the Women's College World Series, next week in Oklahoma City.
Florida scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fourth, on an RBI double off the wall in left center by Taylor Schwarz.
In the circle, senior Lauren Webster (12-5) took the loss, throwing the first four innings and striking out four. Junior Lannah Campbell threw the final three innings and also struck out four batters. For Florida, Hannah Rogers went the distance, allowing only four hits and striking out seven.
UAB threatened in the bottom of the seventh, as senior catcher Anna Kimbrell banged a double off the wall in center field with one out. With senior Hailey Glynn in to pinch run, senior pitcher Lauren Webster hit a single to second base, but Glynn was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
The Blazers ended their year with their first regular-season title in Conference USA with a record of 19-4, and picked up their first NCAA Regional title with two wins over ranked UCLA and one win over No. 15 seed Louisville.
