UAB Softball Falls to No. 9/10 Washington

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team fell to No. 9/10 Washington, 6-0, Thursday night at Mary Bowers Field.

Washington (32-10) was on the board first in top of the third inning. Sis Bates sent a two-run double to the right-center gap to score Ali Aguilar and Kelly Burdick.

The third run of the inning came off the bat of Casey Stangel when she singled to center field and plated Bates to make the score 3-0.

The Huskies took the, 6-0, lead in the top of the fifth inning when Stangel sent a three-run shot to dead center.

UAB (16-28) finished the night with two hits. Freshmen Natalie Erwin and Destini England contributed to the hit column with a single apiece.

Megan Smith (3-3) suffered the loss in the circle for the Blazers. She gave up three runs on five hits and recorded two strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.

Samantha Manti (6-1) celebrated the win for the Huskies. She gave up only two hits in the shutout and tallied four strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched.

The Blazers travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee in a three-game conference series. A doubleheader will be played Saturday beginning at noon and the series finale will be played Sunday at noon.
