Mary Warren finished with three of UAB's RBI on the day, as the Blazers split a doubleheader with Lipscomb.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The UAB softball team (22-15, 8-4 C-USA) dropped game one of a doubleheader, 2-1, on a walk-off, but rebounded in game two to take a 5-3 win over the Lady Bisons at Draper Diamond in Nashville Wednesday night.
In game one of the two-game set, UAB held a 1-0 lead throughout the majority of the contest, but Lipscomb hit a double in the bottom of the seventh to top UAB, 2-1 and steal game one from the Blazers.
UAB fired back early in game two with a three-run home run from Mary Warren to lead 3-0, but after three, Lipscomb tied it back up as the two teams played locked at three runs each up until the seventh before Amy Dennis delivered the go-ahead two-RBI single to put UAB up 5-3 and seal the game two win.
Leigh Streetman went the full length in game one and allowed just the two earned runs, both on the final hit of the game, to drop the 2-1 decision. Lannah Campbell threw her ninth complete game of the season and earned the win in game two to improve to 8-6 after allowing three earned runs on nine hits with six strikeouts.
Warren and Dennis both led UAB offensively with three RBI a piece on the day. Warren’s three came on a first inning home run to deep center field in game two, while two of Dennis’ three were the crucial runs that gave UAB a 5-3 lead and win. Danii Fernandez and Megan McGrath both finished with two hits each, while Heather Pearson, Kristen McGrath, Hayley Davis, Ashley Johnson and Caitlin Attfield each had one hit.
UAB will be back in action this weekend at home as the Blazers welcome No. 17 Tulsa in a crucial three-game Conference USA series at the UAB Softball Field.
Lipscomb 2, UAB 1 (Game One)
UAB scored first for the 18th time this season in the fourth. After playing three scoreless innings, Amy Dennis broke up the 0-0 tie with fundamental work on a squeeze bunt to score Hayley Davis from third, who led off the inning with her third double of the season and give UAB a 1-0 advantage in the fourth.
Lipscomb left two runners on for the second time in the game in the sixth as Streetman worked a huge inning in the circle to escape a jam allowing no Lady Bisons runs to score. Neely and Cartwright both singled to lead off the inning, but Streetman drew two infield popups to Attfield at short and a foul out to Johnson to escape a sixth-inning jam and allow UAB to take a 1-0 lead to the seventh.
For the second-straight inning, Lipscomb began with a single as the Lady Bisons’ second batter of the inning reached on a fielder’s choice. Following an infield putout with one away, Lipscomb’s leadoff hitter delivered a walk-off double to left-center field to top UAB, 2-1, in game one.
UAB 5, Lipscomb 3 (Game Two)
The Blazers batted around in the first and took an early lead, scoring first for the 19th game this season, with a three-run frame to take a 3-0 advantage over Lipscomb. Fernandez doubled to right field with one out and Kristen McGrath walked to put two UAB runners on. With two on and one away, Warren lifted a deep home run to straightaway center, her third of the year, to give UAB a 3-0 lead. The Blazers would go on to bat around in the remainder of the inning, but left the bases loaded on a swinging strikeout.
Lipscomb answered back in the second inning with a single run. Following a 4-6-3 double play, Lipscomb’s Mimi Cartwright got on first via an infield single. Rena Cothron followed with a double to left-center field to plate the Lady Bisons’ first run of the game and cut the UAB lead to 3-1.
The Lady Bisons responded right back in the third to plate two runs on four hits – three that never left the infield – to tie the game at 3-3. Lipscomb’s leadoff hitter got the first hit of the frame, a single that deflected off the plate. Paige Neely followed with a single back to Campbell in the circle, and Kelsey Cartwright grounded into a fielder’s choice. Haley Elliott followed with a single past Fernandez at third to plate Lipscomb’s second run to setup runners at first and second for Kristen Sturdivant. She singled back to Campbell on a slow roller, and Cartwright came home to score after being caught in a rundown to tie the game at 3-3.
UAB responded in a crucial situation in the seventh to plate two runs and give UAB the go-ahead score. Warren led the inning off with a single and she was replaced at first my Madison Hir who entered to pinch run for the first time this season. Following a walk from Pearson, her third of the game, Megan McGrath grounded out to third, but moved both runners over. With one away and two on, Dennis singled hard to right-center field to plate both Hir and Pearson and give UAB the 5-3 advantage that would stand as the final score.
Lipscomb didn’t go away quietly, though, as Kelsey Cartwright singled to left. However, she was out at second attempting to leg out a double as Dennis fired a shot into the infield that deflected off the glove of Attfield, but Campbell was able to chorale it and tag Cartwright out at the second base bag to end the game.
