BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB softball team did not allow Southern Miss to plate a run on Saturday as the Blazers topped the Golden Eagles in the doubleheader, 6-0 and 2-0, at the UAB Softball Field.
"I'm proud of the pitching staff," head coach Marla Townsend said. "They worked together, supporting each other while the defense supported the pitching staff, not allowing Southern Miss to score a single run this weekend. The approach at the plate could have been better, but we got the runs when it counted to win three games."
Senior catcher Anna Kimbrell hit her eighth home run of the yearto put the Blazers on the board to start the Blazer scoring.
With the wins, UAB improves to 22-7 on the year and 11-1 in Conference USA action while Southern Miss falls to 11-24 and 1-10.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Kimbrell hit her eighth home run of the year to left field to put the Blazers up, 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Later on in the inning, senior Chandler Orr reached on a Southern Miss fielding error, and was scored when junior first baseman Megan McGrath singled to left field to give UAB the 4-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, freshman shortstop Caitlin Attfield drew a one-out walk, stole second and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, senior center fielder Whitney Fletcher was hit by pitch before stealing second herself, and junior designated hitter Kristen McGrath singled to right field to drive in two runs to put UAB up, 6-0.
In the circle, junior pitcher Lannah Campbell (5-1) threw a complete game and struck out 10 Southern Miss batters.
UAB 2, Southern Miss 0
The Blazers scored both their runs in the bottom of the third frame as sophomore Heather Pearson singled up the middle with one out, and was advanced to second base when Fletcher drew a walk. Kimbrell was hit by pitch for the 13th time this season to load the bases for UAB with two outs.
Orr then singled to third base and allowed two runs to score on the following Southern Miss error, and UAB took a 2-0 lead.
Senior pitcher Lauren Webster started the game and pitched four full innings, striking out seven before junior Leigh Streetman entered the game with two Golden Eagle runners on base and no outs in the top of the fifth.
Streetman picked up a pair of strikeouts as she got the Blazers out of the jam without allowing a run. The pitcher, who threw a no-hitter on Friday night, retired the Southern Miss batters in order in the sixth and seventh innings to close out the game.
Streetman has not allowed a hit all 10 innings pitched this series.
