Kristen McGrath hit a grand slam in UAB's 6-1 win over Eastern Kentucky
Feb. 16, 2013
WOODSTOCK, Ga.--Senior right fielder Chandler Orr hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the UAB softball team over a comeback-minded SIUE, 7-6. Earlier in the day junior designated hitter Kristen McGrath hit a grand slam en route to the Blazers defeating Eastern Kentucky, 6-1.
"The third time through the lineup and SIUE made a lot of good adjustments, and we had an error that came back and hurt us tremendously," head coach Marla Townsend said. "I think we learned a lot from these games and that we were relentless in the fight we had. I think we are a better team because of today, and we understand that we have to eliminate errors. If we play into these situations, we can't focus on the hits the other team is making, but on us. We have to focus on controlling what we are able to control."
With the win, UAB improves to 5-2 on the season while SIUE falls to 3-2 and Eastern Kentucky to 0-1.
Up next, UAB will face IUPUI on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. ET, before taking on UT Martin at 3:30 p.m. ET. Follow @UABSoftball on Twitter for in-game updates.
