Nick Crawford, who played shortstop and second base for the UAB baseball team from 2008-11, joined the UAB softball program in June 2012.
Crawford, a Cordova, Tenn. native, returns to his alma mater after working as a manager at the Elite Alabama Training facility in Birmingham, where he taught individual speed and agility lessons to athletes ages 6-18.
Crawford's outstanding career as a member of the UAB baseball team was studded with accomplishments. He was selected to the All-Conference USA Second Team (2011), the C-USA All-Freshman Team (2008) and the league's All-Academic Team (2009). He also won the C-USA Spirit of Service Award (2011).
He holds the UAB baseball career record for sacrifice hits (63), while ranking second in program history in walks (143), third in at bats (814) and fourth in hits (245). A career .301 hitter, he was also a sure-handed defender who managed a .979 career fielding percentage and led Conference USA in assists as a senior with 195.
In addition, Crawford was a Cape Cod League All-Star and was selected to the 2009 All-Cape Team, playing in one of the most prestigious summer leagues in the country.
Following his graduation from UAB in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, Crawford had several opportunities to sign professional baseball contracts.
Crawford married the former Catherine Douglass, a UAB softball player from 2009-12, in October 2011. The couple resides in Birmingham.
