Jennifer Collins enters her first season at UAB after joining the UAB softball program in September. Collins, who served as head softball coach at Alabama State the past three years, will be primarily working with outfielders, hitters and slappers, while assisting in the recruiting process.
While at Alabama State, Collins was responsible for all aspects of a Division I program including scheduling, recruiting, marketing, fundraising, and was the conference coaches' spokesperson. Before her stint at ASU, she spent a year at Jackson State University working with both the softball and baseball teams.
""We are extremely excited about adding coach Collins to our softball staff," said Townsend. "Her experience as a player, as well as her coaching success, is what we need to get to the next level. Her enthusiasm and love for the game shines and she knows what it takes to win."
Collins played two seasons at Southern Miss from 1998-99. During her time in Hattiesburg, she helped lead the Eagles to back-to-back Women's College World Series appearances. Following her senior season, she was drafted in the second round of the Women's Professional Softball League by the Ohio Pride. Her coaching career started after she returned to Southern Miss as a graduate assistant in August of 2000.
