BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior midfielder Jasmine Kauka of the UAB women’s soccer team has been named one of 16 recipients of the 2013 Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award, the league office announced Wednesday.

The C-USA Spirit of Service Award is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant work in the community, good academic standing and participation in his or her sport.

The Kane’ohe, Hawaii native, and Conference USA All-Conference Third Team honoree started all 20 games at midfield for the Blazers, netting three goals and adding two assists. A French major with a chemistry minor, Kauka is a three-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member and Dean's List honoree.

Kauka volunteers in the emergency department at the Children's Hospital in Birmingham for three hours each week where she cleans rooms, aids with patient care, explains procedures to children and does artwork with young patients. She also helps coach three different area youth soccer teams and has served as a Big Sister to a local fifth grade student.
