BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s and women’s soccer teams each were recognized for their efforts in the classroom, with each receiving the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year. As a team, both squads posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

UAB was one of 182 schools to have both its men and women’s programs recognized. In addition, UAB was the only Conference USA member to have its men’s and women’s teams honored.

On the pitch, both squads experienced success in 2013. For the first time since 2009, both the men’s and women’s teams each recorded 10 victories in a season. On the men’s side, the Blazers were ranked as high as No. 8 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll during the year and finished the year with a 12-5-1 overall record. The women’s squad earned its first trip to the Conference USA Tournament since the 2009 season and owned a 11-7-2 overall record in 2013.
