BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer team will open play at the 2013 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Championship on Monday in a first round game against Tulsa.

The Blazers qualified for the tournament as the No. 4 seed after dropping their regular-season finale last Thursday night to FAU on the road. UAB and Tulsa will play at 4:30 p.m. CT.

The 10-team format features two first-round matchups on Monday, pitting the No. 4/5 seeds from each division, before quarterfinal play opens on Wednesday.

Tulsa and UAB have recent history, as the two teams played to a 0-0 tie in double overtime at West Campus Field on Oct. 25. The Golden Hurricane enters the tournament with a 10-6-3 record and 4-3-3 conference mark, and is no stranger to postseason play after advancing to the championship game a year ago.

The winner of Monday’s match will go on to face the West No. 1 seed Colorado College Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. All matches will be held at Holloway Field on the campus of Rice University in Houston, Texas. Live stats will be available via the Conference USA website, and fans will also be able to access live video of all the action via the Conference USA Digital Network (subscription only).
