BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – With the conclusion of the regular-season Thursday night, the UAB women’s soccer team earned the East Division No. 4 seed for next week’s 2013 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Championship.

The Blazers qualified for the tournament as the No. 4 seed after dropping their regular-season finale last Thursday night to FAU on the road. The 10-team format features two first-round matchups on Monday, pitting the No. 4/5 seeds from each division, before quarterfinal play opens on Wednesday.

This will mark the 13th appearance for the Blazers in the tournament since the program’s first season in 1996, and first time qualifying for the tournament since the 2009 season in which they tied UTEP, 1-1, and lost to UCF, 1-0. In the Blazers’ 12 appearances they have combined for a 6-8-6 record that includes two tournament championships in 2004 and 2006. In 2004 UAB finished at 16-6-1, won all three conference tournament games, and won its NCAA first-round game against Wake Forest before falling to Tennessee in the second round. The Vols also put the Blazers out of the NCAA Tournament in 2006 after UAB won the Conference USA Tournament that same season.

UAB will face Tulsa to open the tournament on Monday, Nov. 4, at 4:30 p.m. CT in Houston, Texas. The winner of Monday’s match will go on to face the West No. 1 seed Colorado College Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
