BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Senior forward Tiffini Turpin of the UAB women’s soccer team was selected as the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The award marks the third in Turpin’s career as she earned the accolade on Oct. 13, 2008 and Aug. 31, 2009.
“Tiffini has done a great job all season at frustrating the oppositions defenses with her one-on-one attacking ability, slashing runs off the ball and determination,” UAB head coach Harold Warren said.
Turpin scored the golden goal in the 101st minute, lifting UAB to a 3-2 win in double overtime in the Blazers’ season finale against East Carolina at the ECU Soccer Stadium on Sunday.
Turpin tallied all three of UAB’s goals for her first career hat trick and closed the season with 11 points in the final seven games. The Birmingham native ended her career on a high note while the Blazers (6-12-1, 3-7-1 C-USA) fell short of qualifying for the C-USA Championship.
“She did a great job by scoring a clinical hat-trick against a strong ECU team,” Warren said. “It was a great way to end her stellar UAB career.”
Turpin, who has started every match over the last four years (79), finished her career with 11 game-winning goals, placing her in a three-way tie for first on UAB’s all-time list with Sally Palmer (2004-07) and Adrienne Suffridge (1999-02).
