BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The UAB women’s soccer team will trek to Greenville, N.C. to take on the ECU Pirates on Sunday in a makeup game that was rescheduled due to severe weather conditions on Sept. 30. The Blazers and Pirates will kick off at 10 a.m. CT.
In their first match up of the season, UAB (5-12-1, 2-7-1 C-USA) and East Carolina (10-6-1, 5-5-0) played for a little more than 60 minutes, before the game was suspended with the score knotted 1-1.
The rematch will be UAB’s final game of the 2011 season as the Blazers fell slightly short of post-season play at the 2011 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Championship scheduled for Nov. 2-6 in Memphis, Tenn.
In its most recent action, the Blazers fell 2-0 to then-No.8 Memphis on Thursday. After keeping the Tigers off the board for 45 minutes, two early second-half goals propelled Memphis to victory.
Senior Carolyn Polcari paces the Blazers with eight points (3g-2a), while senior Tiffini Turpin and junior Emma Smith round out the top three scorers for the Blazers with seven points (3g-1a), respectively.
UAB leads the all-time series against ECU, 2-1-4. The last four contests have resulted in ties, including a 1-1 draw in a showdown on Oct. 10, 2010 in Birmingham.
