BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
The UAB women's soccer team concludes its 2000 home
schedule Tuesday when they take on Vanderbilt in a 7 p.m. match at West
Campus Field.
The Blazers (3-10-2) have captured two of their last three matches
including a 3-1 Conference USA victory Sunday against Louisville. UAB
takes on a Vandy squad that is 7-7-0 this year and fresh off a 2-1
Southeastern Conference road win at Georgia Sunday.
For UAB, junior Denise Peters (Jacksonville, Ala.) and freshman Jill
Knottek (Midland, Texas) pace the Blazer scoring attack this season with
four goals each. Junior Bridget Winston (Dallas, Texas) holds the team
lead in assists with three, while senior Katja Lerew (Wichita Falls,
Texas) has two.
The match will be the final home contest for six UAB seniors including
Lerew, along with Jen Braly (Denver, Colo.), Lisa Davies (New Glasgow,
Nova Scotia), Kerri Sparks (Birmingham, Ala.), Christene Tran (Mesquite,
Texas) and Jenny Woodward (Dallas, Texas).
The Commodores will look to counter with their top two scorers, Michelle
Bruntlett and Jen Talavera, who each have collected four goal this
season.
Along with being senior night at West Campus Field, the Vandy match also
is High School Night. The loudest group of students from one high school
will receive free pizzas during the game.
