BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB women's soccer team returns to West Campus Field this weekend to host Conference USA foes Houston and Rice this Friday and Sunday, respectively.
Kickoff for the match against Houston is set for 7 p.m. CT, while the matchup at Rice will be at 1 p.m. CT.
LAST TIME OUT UAB (2-12, 1-5 C-USA) embarked on its first league road trip last week, taking on UTEP and Colorado College. Against the Miners, senior Emma Jane Smith and sophomore Johanna Liney scored goals in the 3-2 loss. Liney leads the Blazers with five goals, 11 points, and 28 shot attempts.
At Colorado College, both sides went scoreless until the Tigers connected with the back of the net to go up 1-0 in the 81st minute, but the Blazers were unable to equalize during the final minutes of the match.
ABOUT THE COUGARS Houston (4-6-3, 0-2-3 C-USA) hosted ECU and Marshall last week, and came out with a loss and a tie. The Cougars dropped the opening match of the weekend, 3-0, to ECU. Last Sunday, Houston battled back from a 1-0 deficit to tie Marshall at 1-1, courtesy of a successful penalty kick by junior midfielder Kylie Cook. Junior midfielder Jasmine Martinez leads the Cougars with five goals scored, ten points and 28 shot attempts on the season.
ABOUT THE OWLS Rice (7-5-3, 4-1-1 C-USA) picked up a win and tie last week when it hosted Marshall and ECU. The Owls recorded a pair of goals in each half of the 4-1 victory over the Thundering Herd. Against ECU, the Owls recorded 40 shots in 110 minutes of the 0-0 tie. For the season, freshman forward Holly Hargreaves leads the team with eight goals scored, 19 points, and 60 total shots. Before Sunday's match, Rice will take on Memphis on Friday.
Up next, the Blazers will embark on their final league road trip of the season, first traveling to Dallas, Texas on Friday, Oct. 19, to face SMU at 7 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Oct. 21, the Blazers make the trip to Tulsa, Okla., to take on Tulsa at 2 p.m. CT.
