BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -
UAB women's soccer player Denise Peters garnered Conference
USA Offensive Player of the Week honors. The announcement came from the
league office in Chicago.
The junior from Jacksonville, Ala. collected her first two goals of the
2000 campaign for the Blazers last Friday night in a 4-0 C-USA shutout
victory over Memphis. The match was the only contest of the week for
UAB.
Peters scored the game's first goal in the 32nd minute and then added
her next score in the second half on a breakaway opportunity to help put
the game out of reach from the Tigers.
She is the first UAB player to be awarded this honor since Jen Braly
captured the defensive accolade Aug. 30, 1999. The midfielder is the
fifth different player to capture a weekly honor in women's soccer from
C-USA since the program's inception in 1996.
The Blazers return to action this Friday as they are currently in the
midst of a four-match homestand. UAB takes on Cincinnati at 7 p.m. at
West Campus Field.
