BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB women's soccer team will hit the road this weekend for a pair of Conference USA matches against UTEP and Colorado College. The Blazers and Miners will kick off on Friday at 8 p.m. CT (7 p.m. MT) before taking on the Tigers at 1 p.m. CT (Noon MT) on Sunday.
LAST TIME OUT
Last week, UAB (2-10, 1-3 C-USA) hosted Marshall and ECU in a pair of tough, one-goal losses. Against Marshall, the Blazers scored first when junior midfielder Abby Phillips took a cross from senior midfielder Emma Jane Smith to see the back of the net for the first time this season. The Thundering Herd then scored a pair of goals to go up 2-1, and sophomore Johanna Liney equalized in the 69th minute. Marshall recorded the game winner in the 79th minute off a successful penalty kick.

UAB Completes Weekend Sweep With 1-0 Victory Against UTEP
The UAB women's soccer team netted one goal in the 33rd minute and held on for a 1-0 victory against the UTEP Miners on Sunday afternoon at West Campus Field. Senior forward Tiffini Turpin scored the lone goal in the match for her third of the season and second game-winner.
On a rainy Sunday afternoon, the Blazers hosted ECU and were unable to come back after the Pirates scored the lone goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Freshman Paige Hoffman
attempted a team-high four shots during the match.
ABOUT THE MINERS
Last weekend, UTEP (7-6, 0-4 C-USA) capped a five-game road-swing with a pair of losses at SMU and Tulsa. The Miners were shut out against SMU, 3-0, while senior midfielder Tess Hall scored the lone goal of the weekend in the 2-1 loss to Tulsa. Hall leads the team with five goals scored and six assists for a total of 16 points, and 40 shot attempts. Junior defender Azia Nicholson also has five goals scored on the season, with 13 total points.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Colorado College (7-4-2, 2-1-1 C-USA) capped a four-game road trip with a win and a tie at Tulsa and SMU, respectively. Against Tulsa, senior midfielder Hannah Peterson scored the lone goal of the game in the 60th minute off a pass from the top of the box by sophomore midfielder Jessie Ayers.
At SMU, sophomore forward Jaclyn Silsby and Ayers scored goals within seconds of one another to come back from a 2-0 deficit. Both sides failed to score in two overtime periods to cement the 2-2 tie.
Up next, the Blazers will return to West Campus Field to host Houston and Rice on Oct. 12 and 14, respectively. The Blazers will kick off against Houston at 7 p.m. CT, and the match against Rice is set for 1 p.m. CT.
