BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team (3-1-0) will host Troy (2-2-0) and South Alabama (3-0-1) in its final non-conference home matches of the 2013 regular season this weekend at West Campus Field. The Blazers will take on the Troy Trojans Friday night at 5 p.m., before closing out the weekend against the South Alabama Jaguars on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

For the remainder of September, the Green and Gold will hit the road with five consecutive matches away from the friendly-confines of Birmingham.

"We lost the last game we were at home," head coach Harold Warren stated. "We want to come back, hopefully get a couple of wins, and give the fans what they want. It's our home. This is where we are supposed to be winning. It means a lot. We don't have a lot of home games coming up, so we have to go out there and take care of business."

Last weekend, the Blazers participated in the Sleep Inn Tournament, winning both matches in Orangeburg, S.C. UAB downed Francis Marion on Friday, Aug. 30, 2-0, then defeated tournament-host South Carolina State, 3-2, in overtime on Sunday, Sept. 1. With its three victories, the squad eclipsed its win total from the 2012 season in a mere four matches.

"It's a new group, but the same group," commented Warren. "We have a lot of returners, obviously. We have had a lot of good young players come in that brought a certain mentality to the group. The returning group has a great mentality. As a team, which we haven't had the last two years, they fight. There is no give up. They are going to fight until the end, regardless. That's going to carry us a long way."

Both opponents present challenging matches for UAB, this weekend. Troy defeated Jackson State, 5-0, in its latest match on Sunday, Sept. 1. South Alabama has not lost a game in its first four outings of the year, outscoring its opponents, 9-2.

"I know they are going to be tough games," added Warren. "They are in-state games and it's always going to be for pride. I know they are both doing fairly well, at the moment. The good thing is we are at home. They are both going to be tough matches. We are going to have to play our best to get wins. It will be tough games."
