BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB women’s soccer player Paige Hanks has been selected as the Student-Athlete of the Week. It is the first time that Hanks has earned the honor, which acknowledges those who succeed both in the classroom and in athletic competition for the Blazers.
Hanks, a sophomore from Garland, Texas, scored a pair of goals in Sunday’s 5-2 loss to Ole Miss after playing 55 minutes in the Blazers 3-1 season-opening victory at Vanderbilt.
With two goals on the season, the midfielder is well on her way to surpassing her 2012 goal total. Hanks recorded four goals during her freshman campaign en route to earning a C-USA All-Freshman team selection.
Hanks has also excelled in the classroom. The liberal arts major has posted a 3.31 GPA at UAB and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.12. She was named to the Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2012, which is awarded to student-athletes who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
