BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB women's soccer team will play host to in-state foe Alabama on Sunday at West Campus Field with first kick set for 1 p.m. CT.
Last week, UAB (0-2-0) opened the season on the road in Oregon, facing Oregon State on Friday, and Oregon on Sunday. Against the Beavers, the Blazers came out with high energy, and held off the defense until Oregon State hit a goal late in the 88th minute to take the 1-0 win. Two days later, against the Ducks, the squad gave up an early goal, and while there was a number of scoring opportunities for UAB, Oregon took the 2-0 win.
Alabama (2-0) hosted Samford on Friday night in its home opener. The Crimson Tide took the 2-1 win with goals from freshman Katie Bourgeois in the 45th minute and sophomore Theresa Diederich in the 57th minute. This marks the thirteenth meeting between UAB and Alabama, with the Blazers holding a 7-4-1 advantage.
On Friday, the Blazers hosted the UAB alumni team. The current team defeated its predecessors 3-1, and sophomore Johanna Liney, junior Abby Phillips, and freshman Alanna Dineen each contributed to the win.
