Yempuku and Turpin each received all-conference second-team honors at the end of the 2009 season. Yempuku also earned NSCAA All-Region second-team honors. She was a key reason the Blazers ranked among the league leaders on defense last year, holding opponents to a 1.13 goals against average. The Honolulu, Hawaii native scored a pair of goals in 2009, including the game-winner against Pacific.
Turpin has been a staple of UAB's offense since her freshman campaign. After being named the league's co-Freshman of the Year in 2008, Turpin led the team with five goals during the 2009 campaign, including four game-winners. With her all-conference second-team selection last year, the Birmingham, Ala. native became the first Blazer since Sally Palmer to capture back-to-back all-conference accolades.
UAB plays its first exhibition of the 2010 season on Saturday, traveling to Florida for a 6 p.m. CT match against the Gators. The Blazers open the regular season at home on Aug. 20, hosting Vanderbilt at 7 p.m. CT at West Campus Field.
