BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer program and head coach Harold Warren announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Monday. Meredith Schertzinger, Katherine Foster, Rachel Green, Gabrielle Brokamp, Blaine Cathey, Amy Brewer and Bri Kuestersteffen inked with the Blazers and will be joining the squad for the 2014 season.

“Our 2014 freshmen class are a great group of young ladies and we are extremely excited about them becoming a part of our UAB family,” head coach Harold Warren said. “Collectively and individually they are 100 percent committed to excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field. We are definitely looking forward to August when we get the chance to work with them. Adding our newcomers to our returning players forms a well-balanced team that will consistently work hard and smart to continue the positive growth of our program.”
Meredith Schertzinger – Defender – Cincinnati, Ohio (The Summit Country Day School)
Schertzinger comes to UAB from Cincinnati, Ohio where she was a four-year varsity starter at Summit Country Day School under head coach Mike Fee. She was named team captain in 2013 and played for Southwest Ohio in the 2013 Senior All-Star Game. She earned 2013 All-Southwest Ohio and All-Ohio Academic honors, and helped lead her team to the Division III state championship in 2011 as the MVP. During that season she also earned Enquirer All-Star honors and was named to the All-Southwest Ohio First Team in 2011 and also in 2013. In her time away from school, she played club soccer for Kings Hammer Academy and helped lead the team to Ohio South State Cup Championship in 2012 and 2013.
Katherine Foster – Midfielder – McKinney, Texas (McKinney Boyd HS)
Foster comes to UAB from McKinney, Texas where she was a four-year varsity letter winner under head coach Meagan Wilson at McKinney Boyd High School. As a junior she earned all-district second team honors, and also was a finalist in the 2011 varsity track district finals in the 100m run. She also played two years for FC Dallas ECNL.
Rachel Green – Midfielder – Peachtree City, Ga. (McIntosh HS)
Green comes to UAB from McIntosh High School where she played under head coach Marsha Clark. She helped lead the team to an undefeated season in 2012 and two state championship seasons in 2011 and 2012.
Gabrielle Brokamp – Midfielder – Cincinnati, Ohio (Walnut Hills HS)
Brokamp comes to UAB from Cincinnati, Ohio where she played varsity soccer for four years at Walnut Hills High School under head coach Bob Muro. She earned first team all-conference honors 2011-2013, and earned second team all-conference honors in 2010. She also earned the Walnut Hills’ Athletic Directors Award as a senior, and played club soccer for Kings Hammer Academy.
Blaine Cathey – Defender – Abilene, Texas (Heritage/Klein HS)
Cathey comes to UAB from Abilene, Texas where she played club soccer with the Challenge ECNL, Sting Soccer Club, Solar Soccer Club and FC Dallas ECNL teams.
Amy Brewer – Defender – Lawrenceville, Ga. (McIntosh HS)
Brewer comes to UAB from McIntosh High School in Georgia where she was a four-year starter under head coach Marcia Clark. She helped her team to the state championship in 2011 and 2012, and was named first team all-region in 2012 and 2013. Brewer played club soccer for Concorde Fire South ECNL and helped her team finish first in the Southeastern Conference.
Bri Kuestersteffen – Defender – Oklahoma City, Okla. (Norman North HS)
Kuestersteffen comes to UAB from Norman North High School in Oklahoma where she was a four-year starter under head coach Don Rother. As a senior she was named all-conference and all-district, and also picked up defensive player of the year honors. In 2012 she was named all-conference, all-district, all-city and offensive player of the year. She was named the Norman Athletic Association Athlete of the Year in 2012 and 2013, and also earned the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. She played club soccer for Fury ’96 and was co-captain of the team for three years.
