BOCA RATON, Fla. - The UAB women's soccer team fell to Florida Atlantic, 2-0, in its final match of the regular season. The Blazers were unable to overcome the Owls' two goals.
With the loss, UAB fell to 11-6-2 on the season and Florida Atlantic finished 5-10-4.
The teams were evenly matched for most of the first half, with UAB taking five shots to FAU's six.
Both goalkeepers came up with three saves in the first half to keep the match close. It wasn't until the 41st minute that Florida Atlantic got the ball past Blazer keeper Courtnie Northern to find the back of the net. The Owls' Gabriella Sosa scored her first goal of the season to give FAU a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
UAB was unable to get going offensively in the second half, taking just one shot. The Owls kept pressing and eventually were able to breakaway from the Blazer defense and tack on another goal in the 79th minute. The goal by Claire Emslie was her seventh of the season.
Freshman forward Kimberly Fincher took three shots at the net to lead all Blazers. Seniors Jasmine Kauka and Kirsten Ebert also had opportunities, but were unable to convert.
Next up for the Blazers will be the Conference USA tournament that will begin on Monday, Nov. 4. The time and opponent for the match will be announced once the full bracket has been determined.
