EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The UAB women's soccer team dropped its non-conference finale at Evansville, 3-0, on Friday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The Blazers outshot the Purple Aces, 11-9, but were unable to find the back of the net and put it away.
Kayla Lambert earned a hat trick on the night, scoring all three goals for the Purple Aces. Lambert tallied her first goal in the 39th minute, assisted by Julie Winkler. She added a second score 10 minutes later, with assists by Heidi Grey and Sara Omelas, to put Evansville up, 2-0.
Lambert finished off her hat trick when Katelyn Smith assisted on a goal in the 85th minute to make the final score, 3-0, in favor of the Purple Aces.
Despite the score, UAB held an 11-9 advantage in shots, while Evansville outdid the Blazers in shots on goal, 6-4.
UAB was led in shots by senior Jill Porto and freshman Justine Hartigan with three a piece, along with five other Blazers with one shot each.
Lambert paced the Purple Aces with three shots, followed by Mia Tofano and Kristin Thuve with two shots each, while three others added one shot to Evansville's total.
Theresa Bagby earned the win in goal for the Purple Aces, grabbing four saves and shutting out the Blazers. Redshirt freshman Kate Blankenship tallied three saves and allowed three goals while receiving the loss for UAB.
"I thought we played well during the first 10 minutes," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "After that, I thought we were very complacent. All three of their goals went through our the middle of our defense and we were caught watching.
"We have a lot of potential, I just didn't see anyone out there on the field that wanted to take charge. We will be looking closely at what we are doing starting Tuesday and evaluating a lot of things."
UAB (4-4-1) will be back in action on October 5 when they open Conference USA play at Memphis at 7:00 p.m.
