OXFORD, Miss.--The UAB women's soccer team lost to Ole Miss 4-1 on Friday night at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
Sophomore Johanna Liney scored UAB's (0-6) lone goal in the 48th minute, assisted by fellow sophomore Megan Collins. Along with scoring her second goal of the season, Liney led the team in shot attempts with three. Collins and junior Jasmine Kauka also contributed two shots apiece to the team's total of nine.
Ole Miss (7-0) scored its first goal late in the 14th minute as Alix Hildal received a pass back out of the box from teammate Erin Emerson. In the 43rd minute, Mandy McCalla's strike brought the Rebels up 2-0. Rafaelle Souza scored Ole Miss' final two goals in the 69th and 80th minutes of the match.
"Our mistakes are getting to us," head coach Harold Warren said. "I have to give credit to Ole Miss, they're a very good team, very well coached. We just have to do what we can to minimize our mistakes and keep working. We had some great moments tonight with Jo Liney's goal to bring the score to 2-1, but our mistakes were costly. We just need to get better."
Up next, UAB travels to the state of Florida to wrap up the non-conference season with matches at Stetson and Florida Atlantic. The Blazers will tangle with the Hatters on Friday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. CT in Deland, Fla. before traveling to Boca Raton, Fla. to face the Owls on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. CT.
